Southern Turkiye

Hey Frederik, Never Swim with Your Armor On!

Frederic Frankel was recently in a remote part of southern Turkiye* (looking at rock outcrops) when he came upon the sign marking the place where Frederik Barborossa died.

* Turkiye is how they spell it in Turkey.

Who was Frederik Barborossa? He was the Holy Roman Emperor in Germany from 1155 to 1190 and he led 100,000 crusaders (the third crusade) through the region on his way to Palestine.

Barborossa met his demise in the river canyon (where this photo was taken) by drowning whilst having a swim before taking his armor off.

Thanks again to Frederic Frankel for sending us another great photo. Have a safe trip to Libya
